Special assistance and care is required for people living with dementia. UPA Murray Region provides specialist housing designed to assist people with varying degrees of dementia. Murray Vale Shalem Hostel is set in landscaped lawns and gardens and all residents rooms open onto these gardens or courtyards. The Hostel has 60 rooms with ensuites. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own furnishings making the Hostel truly their home.
Colours have been chosen to promote a calming relaxed environment and hallways are wide and spacious to allow residents to wander safely. Residents are monitored with the use of modern technology to maintain their safety without being intrusive. Shalem has a number of small intimate sitting areas where residents can sit with visitors and a beautiful outdoor courtyard where they can tend to the garden or just enjoy the sunshine.
Shalem’s living and entertainment areas are on one level enabling easy access and mobility. Residents gather regularly to share companionship and news as they dine on meals cooked by the Hostel kitchen in the spacious dining room or enjoy a concert held by a number of visiting choirs and groups in the large activity room. For those wishing a quiet moment there are a number of sitting rooms away from the hustle and bustle of the main room.
