We’ll try again and hope the weather gods are kind to us this time!
This is the perfect hike for anyone who has not yet experienced a night out on the High Plains. The hike itself is an easy 6kms to the huts at the former cattleman’s yards, all on track and the hike is eminently suitable for FIRST TIME overnighters.
Experienced hikers are more than welcome to join us and provide some support and education for first-timers.
The hike follows the Australian Alps Walking Track from Cope Hut, passes Cope Saddle Hut and then continues along a 4WD maintenance track beside the viaduct. It takes about two hours walking at a leisurely pace and includes a 15-minute stop at Cope Saddle Hut.
There are plenty of level grassy places to pitch a tent, an ample water supply and a very comfortable and cosy hut where we can cook our meals and socialise.
If it’s hot (or not) we will take an afternoon hike to the ‘Secret Waterfall’ where there is a beaut swimming hole, so bring your bathers and a towel.
If you are worried that you may not have all the appropriate gear, remember you can hire some essentials from Adventure Gear, Albury, or we can rustle up whatever you might need.
Someone may wish to lead a DAY HIKE with us on the Saturday and join us for a swim.
