In past years, we’ve parked at the picnic area at the Buckland River bridge then walked upriver for 4 or 5 km. However, floodwaters have changed the course of the riverbed and washed out some of the access tracks so this year’s walk will be different. Instead of starting at the bridge, we will finish there. We’ll start walking 4 or 5 km downriver (i.e. closer to Porepunkah) and follow the river upstream to the bridge. There are some lovely deep swimming holes along the way, birds to see, and blackberries to pick. The water is quite deep in places so don’t bring anything you wouldn’t want to get wet. Also, parts of the riverbed are slippery and stony so please wear old boots rather than sandals or sneakers.
