Oolong Hostel
Howlong
Oolong Hostel has a strong focus on encouraging residents to be as independent as possible while creating a caring, nurturing home.
Oolong Hostel has 21 beds with option of respite and offers ‘ageing in place’. Oolong residents’ rooms are positioned in three separate single-story brick buildings that have covered walkways to encourage socialisation. All 21 rooms are large, single rooms with ensuites in beautifully landscaped gardens; perfect for that morning stroll or to just sit and relax. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with touches from home.
The living, dining and entertainment areas are all easily accessed and home cooked meals are provided daily. Residents have tea and coffee making facilities in each House and are encouraged to share with visitors.
Oolong Hostel and its residents have a real connection to the town of Howlong, located just a few metres walk to the main street. A growing band of volunteers from the local community support and compliment the work of our staff, giving residents opportunities for genuine interaction as often as they would like.
Residents can take part in a daily activity, from a calendar of events organised by the staff and volunteers. Activities include outings to neighbouring towns for lunch, exercise classes, bowls, movies, bingo, musical entertainers and visits by Red Cross volunteers who provide hand and nail care.
The Hostel is supported by the local Doctor, regular visits by a podiatrist and weekly onsite service by a hairdresser and masseuse.
Our Care staff are trained and experienced in providing for all care needs for residents.
With a population of 2,500, Howlong is an attractive rural, riverside town on the NSW/VIC border situated in the Federation Council area, about 30km from Corowa and the City of Albury.
