Due to the road closure to Falls Creek I am putting forward a different proposal.  THIS IS NOW A CAR CAMP. NO OVERNIGHT PACKS REQUIRED

If things suddenly change we will go back to plan A: Mt Nelse.

On Saturday we will drive to JB Plain (Mt Hotham) and set up camp.  We will walk to Silver Brumby Hut for late lunch. (6km return) it is all on formed fire tracks and is a downhill walk going there and guess what, uphill coming back.

In the evening we will drive to Loch Car park and then head to Mt Loch to watch the sunset. We will walk back to our cars hopefully aided by the light of the moon but torches and spare batteries are essential.  This walk is 7km all up. It is on formed fire track with the last section heading to the top, a little rocky.

Who knows what we’ll do on Sunday before returning. Watch this space.

This walk would be great for beginners to overnight walking.  Ring me to discuss equipment and other requirements. The club has gear to hire and often you can borrow or share gear.

Unless you are well known to me as a walker please phone me to discuss this walk. (Not a text).   I will return messages as soon as possible.

THIS IS PLAN A. I’M LEAVING IT HERE BECAUSE I’M AN OPTIMIST

On Saturday we will walk along Heathy Spur  (Falls Creek) to Edmonsons Hut.  This involves 7 km of gently undulating  walking, mostly on footpad with 1 km on the Big River Fire Trail.  After lunch and setting up camp there is an opportunity to walk to Johnson’s Hut with a day pack or a much lighter overnight pack.  This optional walk is 4km return with a bit of up and down. After having dinner we will then go back up to the fire trail and walk about 2kms to Mt Nelse.  The final 500m up  Nelse is also a footpad.  This can also be done with a day pack or a much lighter overnight pack. Hopefully there will be a wonderful sunset to enjoy.  Last year it was spectacular.

We will walk back to our camp site, hopefully aided by the light of the moon but torches and spare batteries are essential.

On the Sunday we will head back to the cars via The Big River Fire Trail 5km. Hopefully we can arrange to have a car there and then get drivers back to their cars.  Otherwise it’s a 2km walk beside the road.

There is also the possibility of walking 5km up to Ropers Lookout without our full packs at the end if people still have the energy.  The views of the village and surrounding area is worth the walk.
