This lesser known track, which starts near the Trout Farm 4km north of Harrietville, is definitely the least used up Mt Feathertop.
The first 2km is relatively flat, before it begins to undulate up and down until you get to the bridge over the second river crossing. From here, the uphill begins with switchbacks upwards through the forest and away from the valley below.
Once you hit the Northwest Spur, the trail straightens out but continues to climb. The vegetation thins as you get closer to the MUMC Hut, which is 7km from the start.
The next 2km contours under Feathertop past a spring, then meets up with the track to Federation Hut. From Federation Hut, we will follow Bungalow Spur back down to Harrietville.
The walk is approximately 20km.
