This is an easy overnight hike on the Australian Alpine Walking Track from Mt Loch Carpark to Derrick Hut, a distance of approx 8.1km. The hut commemorates Charles Henry Derrick, who set off on a solo cross country ski run from Mountain Creek in 1965 with the objective of ski-ing the fifty-two kilometres to Mount Hotham in a single day, but he failed and perished in the bad weather.
After setting up tents we will walk the 2km to Mt Loch summit, returning to Derrick Hut for the night. Then on Sunday we will return to the cars. We should be in Harrietville for lunch.
